About Boswell Oil Company

What is DEF?

DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is a high purity solution in water (32.5%). It is used to chemically transform harmful nitrogen oxide emissions from America's diesel powered vehicles into harmless water vapor and nitrogen. DEF is containted in a separate tank and sprayed from the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system into the exhaust gases.

Boswell Oil is proud to offer Diesel Exhaust Fluid Solutions from Air1. The market for DEF is being created due to the new emission requirements promulgated by the EPA to meet the most recent Clean Air Act specifications. As depicted below the progressive reduction in diesel emissions has driven tremendous changes in engine requirements over the past 15 years. These efforts have been focused on reducing particulates, sulphur, and NOX emissions. DEF is focused on meeting the 2010 requirement for NOX emissions reductions.

  • Air1 complies with the highest industry standards in Diesel Exhaust Fluid, certified by American Petroleum Institute (API).
  • DEF and SCR, according to engine manufacturers, improves overall fuel economy by approximately 5% compared to competing technologies and achieves NOx reductions in excess of 90%.
  • New truck engine manufacturers will comply with the emission standards imposed by the EPA Clean Air Act that came into effect on January 1, 2010. Under the new U.S. Regulations most engine manufacturers have chosen the Selective Catalytic Reduction system as the most efficient way to meet these clean air standards.
